The Gold Star Family of Sgt. Jason McLeod opened the May 3rd City Council meeting at City Hall. Sgt. McLeod gave his life for his country on November 23, 2009 at the age of 22.  He left behind his wife Aimee and his 16 month old daughter, Joycelyn, his parents Greg McLeod, mother Barb McLeod Hanke, his brother Justin McLeod, and sister Jacquee McLeod.

A large number of Crystal Lake residents were there to honor the family and remember Jason. Army escorts, SSgt David Sisco and SSgt Derek Johnson  presented flowers to Jason's mother, and his daughter Jocelyn. It was a very moving evening as Mayor Haig Haleblain told the assembled audience about Jason's life and service and, as the family was escorted out of the Council chamber, they received a standing ovation that lasted quite a while after they had left the room.

Families of Blue Star Banner honorees will now take turns opening the meetings by leading the Pledge.  The public is invited to attend.
