 CH New 2012

Community Harvest Food Totals

$19,377 in monetary donations and 85,985 pounds of food were donated in the month of November for the 22nd Annual Community Harvest. The record setting numbers of 2011 were off the charts to try to achieve. The Community Harvest Committee views this year, 2012 as a great food drive, very realistic of the current economic times and the willingness of this community to share. Factoring in some very large donations from some companies and our retail partners in 2011, the donations in 2012 were very generous. Our thanks to every person that gave food, monetary donations and helped in every phase of the drive.

What is Community Harvest?

Community Harvest combines the efforts of the Crystal Lake Chamber, Crystal Lake Jaycees, and the Crystal Lake Food Pantry, as well as numerous churches, local businesses, civic organizations, schools, and residents throughout the community, to collect food and funds throughout the fall season.  Donations, both food and monetary, are used to benefit clients of the Crystal Lake Food Pantry as well as the Jaycees’ Share-A-Christmas program.

All the collection efforts culminate on Thanksgiving morning, when community volunteers gather to help sort the food donations and box them for future use.  Over 1,00 people participated this year, filling boxes with food donations – all of which will be distributed to local families during the winter months.

Monetary donations go a long way to help the Food Pantry to be a continued resource to their clients, many of whom may only need the help for a month or so while getting back on their feet. Food and monetary donations for the Pantry are gratefully accepted all year long – not just during Community Harvest season!  Donations can be made online at clpantry.org.  If writing a check, please make it payable to the Crystal Lake Food Pantry, and mail it to P.O. Box 1071, Crystal Lake, IL 60039-1071.  Donations are tax deductible.
